What is Kwanzaa? Kwanzaa is a weeklong African American and Pan-African cultural holiday honoring African heritage. Or is it truly an African holiday or a made-up one for someone's personal gain and greed? Maulana Karenga created the new African holiday of Kwanzaa in 1966 after failing to make a name for himself in both the Malcolm X and the Black Panthers groups. Failing to fit in with these crowds he gravitated to abusing women out of his frustration. In fact, he went to jail in 1971, due to being convicted of three felony charges, assault, torture, and false imprisonment of women.
